ADEPT stands for Assisting, Developing, and Evaluating Professional Teachers. The ADEPT process involves all professional educators in the district, and includes both professional development and evaluation. The Induction Program, formal SAFE-T evaluations, and GBE are all encompassed by the ADEPT umbrella.
Induction
First year teachers are issued "Induction" contracts. Teachers participate in an Induction Class which meets monthly and addresses topics of concern to teachers, and prepares teachers for the second-year formal evaluation process.
SAFE-T
SAFE-T is the acronym for Summative ADEPT Formal Evaluation for Teachers. It refers to the formal evaluation process for classroom based teachers. All second year "Annual" contract teachers will participate in a formal SAFE-T evaluation. Experienced and "Continuing" contract teachers may also be evaluated by SAFE-T.
Professional Growth & Development Plans
Each teacher will develop Professional Growth and Development Plans, which guide the goal-setting process for teachers participating in Research and Development GBE. The PG&D plan may be modified as circumstances dictate, such as when an educator assumes new responsibilities, changes jobs, or develops new interests.
GBE
Goals Based Evaluation refers to the informal evaluation process in which all teachers participate (with the exception of teachers under-going formal evaluation or participating in the Induction year). The GBE process may take the form of "Research and Development GBE" or "Competence Building GBE".
Rearch and Development GBE
In this process, teachers develop 1 - 3 goals to be attained during a five-year period (concurrent with the educator's certificate validity dates). Activities in which the teacher participates to pursue a goal will count toward renewal of the educators' certificate. Goals may be pursued individually, or as a team.
Competence Building GBE
Competence Building GBE is intended to help improve teaching performance. Goals are developed to address identified weaknesses or areas which need improvement. This process may be started at any point of the school year, and should be started immediately after an administrator has identified and documented weaknesses over time.
