Frequently Asked Questions…

How Do District Employees Apply For A Different Position Or Transfer?

Current employees should submit a letter of interest to the Office of Personnel to request consideration for a different position or transfer.  The District will consider all such requests based on the needs of the district, the qualifications of staff members and the expressed preferences of personnel.  When it is not possible to meet all three policy components, the administration will assign employees first, in accordance with the needs of the district, second, where the administration feels the employee is best qualified to serve; and third, as to the expressed preference of the employee.

What are the PACE and ABCTE Programs?

PACE (the Program for Alternative Certification in Education) in South Carolina, and ABCTE (the American Board for Certification in Teacher Excellence) are programs designed to put adult professionals with previous work experience into the classroom.   While both programs are intense, fast-paced, and demanding; they offer the possibility of a career in education without all of the time and expense of re-training through a traditional teacher education program.

PACE participants must hold a degree in a designated area related to the subject they wish to teach (for example, an undergraduate degree in Science would meet qualifications for a science teacher).  A list of subject areas, as well as information on obtaining a certificate through the Critical Needs / PACE program can be found on the State Department of Education website at https://scteachers.ed.sc.gov/apps/paceweb/index.cfm.

The ABCTE program, which operates in a number of states, allows participants to select a teaching area from a limited number of secondary (high school) subjects:  Math, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Physics, and English.  For more information about the national ABCTE program, go to their website, www.abcte.org.

Saluda County School District accepts applications from prospective teachers participating in either program.

What is Project CREATE?

Project CREATE is a program designed for currently employed Instructional Assistants with two years of college to become certified Special Education Teachers, by offering discounted college courses in a local cohort around a work schedule.  Student teaching may be accomplished with the district in which the Instructional Assistant is currently employed.  For more information about the Project CREATE program, go to www.sccreate.org.

What About Loan Cancellation?
